Samsung Power Cool Explained – What It Is & How To Use It

Last update:

If you’re wondering what the Power Cool feature does on your Samsung refrigerator and how to use it, you’re in the right place.

So, what is Samsung Power Cool?

Samsung Power Cool fills the refrigerator with a burst of cold air, quickly lowering the internal temperature to 1°C within around 2 hours, helping foods to stay fresher for longer.

In this article, I’ll go through everything you need to know about the power cool feature.

How Samsung Refrigerator Power Cool Works

Power Cool works by pushing cold air into the fridge compartment continuously – rather than as/when required to maintain the temperature.

This means your refrigerator will use more electricity while Power Cool is turned on, so keep in mind the impact on your bills.

When to Use Samsung Power Cool

After Unpacking Your Shopping

Power Cool is a great feature if you’ve had your fridge doors open for 5-10 minutes while unpacking the shopping.

It can help to quickly get the refrigerator back to a normal temperature, meaning your fresh foods will last longer.

If You’ve Left the Fridge Doors Open

If you have accidentally left your refrigerator door(s) open for too long, the internal temperature of your fridge may be causing food to spoil.

Power Cool can help in this scenario by restoring the fridge back to its regular temperature more quickly.

After a Power Cut

Power Cool can also be useful if you’ve recently had a power cut or moved your appliance since it speeds up the cooling process, making your fridge food-ready again more quickly.

Samsung Power Cool Troubleshooting

Here’s a quick troubleshooting guide for when the power cool feature on your Samsung fridge is acting weird.

Power Cool Won’t Turn on

If you’ve pressed the Power Cool button, but it won’t go on, the most likely cause is an electrical problem.

Turn your refrigerator off at the mains power for 3-5 minutes, then turn it back on and try again.

Power Cool Won’t Turn off

If Power Cool won’t turn off manually, either wait for it to turn off automatically or turn your refrigerator off at the mains power for 3-5 minutes, then turn it back on.

My Refrigerator Has Seized Up After Using Power Cool

Power Cool makes the appliance work at full power to reduce the internal temperature to 1°C as quickly as possible.

If you use it regularly, it’s essential to ensure you have an adequate defrosting and maintenance schedule to keep on top of any ice build-up.

My Refrigerator is Only Cold With Power Cool on

If your refrigerator only seems ‘cold’ with Power Cool turned on, the operating temperature of your fridge is likely set to above 1°C.

This is an easy fix; Samsung recommends a setting of 3°C/37.4F, so just use the up and down arrows on your temperature gauge. If you prefer it slightly colder than this, try setting it to 2°C instead.

FAQs

How long does it take to Power Cool Samsung?

Power Cool lowers the internal fridge temperature to 1°C within around 2 hours.

Does Samsung Power Cool turn off automatically?

Yes, it’ll turn off automatically when the internal fridge temperature reaches 1°C.

How long does Power Cool stay on?

Power Cool will stay on until the internal fridge temperature reaches 1°C.

Does Samsung Power Cool reduce electricity consumption?

No, much the opposite. Power Cool turns the compressor and fan on constantly rather than just as needed, so it uses significantly more electricity.

Where is the Power Cool button on a Samsung refrigerator?

The Power Cool button is usually in an obvious spot on the control panel, with ‘Power Cool’ text on or near the button.

Why is my Samsung refrigerator overheating with Power Cool on?

Power Cool increases the workload of your refrigerator, so if using it regularly, it’s even more important than normal to make sure your coils are clean and that the refrigerator is positioned away from walls with proper ventilation.

If you think the appliance is overheating – turn Power Cool off immediately.

As mentioned above, if you are using this feature often, you must clean your Samsung refrigerator coils regularly.

How long should I leave Power Cool on?

Only as long as you need; it uses more electricity and makes the components of your refrigerator work harder than they usually would.

If left on too long, it may decrease the lifespan of the appliance.
