It’s never good news when an error light pops up on a refrigerator, but it’s important to take note so you can continue to enjoy clean and freshly filtered water.
Most Samsung filters need replacing every 6 months (or 1200L – whichever comes first), so it’s a good idea to keep a spare to hand.

Samsung Refrigerator Filter Light Won’t Reset – Troubleshooting
If you’ve replaced the filter and pressed the reset buttons above – but the light is still showing, here are a few things to check before reaching out for technical support.
Check That the Control Panel Lock Isn’t on
If there’s a padlock showing on your Control Panel, it’s likely that your Child Lock is on. You can toggle this off by pressing and holding the ‘Child Lock’ button for 3-5 seconds until the padlock disappears.

Check That Exhibition Mode is Off
If you’re thinking “the lights are on, but no one’s home,” then your refrigerator may be in what Samsung calls ‘Exhibition Mode’.
This is for when a refrigerator is in the showroom, so the buttons generally work, but the refrigerator isn’t operational.
You can turn this off by pressing both the ‘Power Freeze’ and ‘Freezer’ buttons simultaneously until you hear a ‘ding-dong.’
Check That the Filter is Sitting Properly in the Housing
If the filter isn’t sitting properly in its housing, the refrigerator won’t recognize that it’s been installed. Double-check that it’s seated firmly and doesn’t wobble, then try resetting the light again.
Check That the Correct Filter Has Been Installed
There are three different types of Samsung water filters: HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAFCU1.
You can double check your model number matches the side of the canister or check it against your owner’s manual. If it’s not a match, you should order and install the correct version.
Reset the Refrigerator
If all else has failed, you can perform a hard reset on the refrigerator by turning it off at the mains power for 30 minutes, then turning it back on.
The water filter indicator may have cleared itself, or you can try again with the buttons listed for your model above.
