Bosch Dishwasher Error Code E24 – Causes and Fixes
To find the underlying issue, run through the most common causes and fixes below.
Drain Hose Blockage
A blockage in the drain hose caused by excess food waste can prevent water from draining correctly.
How to fix – Check the Drain Hose
Start by removing the hose from the dishwasher and inspecting it for any kinks or bends that may be obstructing the water flow.
If you find a blockage, clear it out and try rerunning the dishwasher to see if the E24 error code disappears.
Drain Pump Fault
A faulty drain pump can also lead to this error code, as the dishwasher cannot drain water properly. This may occur if the valve is malfunctioning or not closed completely.
How to fix – Find the Drain Pump and Clean Any Debris
To solve the issue, you’ll need to gain access to the drain pump and clear out any debris that’s clogged. If it’s not clogged but instead looks damaged or broken, you’ll need to source and install a replacement.
Blocked Filter
The dishwasher filter can become clogged with food particles, soap scum, and other debris, obstructing water flow and triggering the E24 error. This may occur due to a broken pump or a lack of maintenance.
How to fix – Clean the Filter
First, find the filter assembly – it’s usually quite easy to access on the floor of the dishwasher. Turn it counterclockwise and raise it straight to remove it. Using a brush, soap, and warm water, thoroughly clean the filter.
Once you’ve cleaned the filter, put it back in place and try rerunning the dishwasher.
If the filter has any sign of damage, this could be the problem, and you need to install a new one.
Low Water Pressure
Low water pressure or insufficient water supply can cause the dishwasher to struggle to wash dishes and trigger the E24 error code.
How to fix – Check the Waste Water Pump
If the drain hose and filter are clear, the problem may lie with the wastewater pump.
To check the pump, you’ll need to remove the dishwasher from its mounting and locate the pump at the bottom of the unit.
Then, remove any debris you find and try rerunning the dishwasher.
The Knockout Plug Hasn’t Been Removed
NB. This is only relevant if your dishwasher is new or you’ve recently moved.
The knockout plug is a small piece of plastic found within the dishwasher to stop water from getting inside during shipping.
This plug is usually located where the dishwasher drain hose connects, but if it’s not removed during installation, it can cause your Bosch dishwasher to display error code E24.
How to fix – Locate the Knockout Plug and Take It Out
You need a screwdriver and a set of needle nose pliers for this one.
To remove the plug from the dishwasher, gently pry it out with the screwdriver. Lay the screwdriver tip onto the knockout plug and lightly hit it a few times. The extra water will drain after the plug is discarded.
Electrical Fault
Like any other electronic device, Bosch dishwashers can also experience software glitches or bugs, causing the E24 error to appear.
How to fix – Perform a Hard Reset
The most reliable technique to fix this error code is to do a hard reset.
Switch off the dishwasher and unplug it or turn the mains power off. Then, reconnect the washer after waiting two to three minutes and see if it’s fixed the error.
The Pump Cover is Loose
The drain pump is protected by a plastic cover called the pump cover. If the pump cover is loose, it can cause a leak and trigger the E24 error code.
How to fix – Tighten the Pump Cover
The drain pump cover conceals the drain impeller and pump, but if it is too loose, the pump may flood and cease to function properly.
Open the dishwasher and pull the lower rack out. Unlock and lift out the drain filter assembly to remove it. You should then be able to see the locking tab that holds the drain pump cover in place underneath this in the sump.
Check for any signs of damage, and source/fit a replacement if required.
Otherwise, you can re-seal the pump cover by pushing the dislodged impeller cover back into position.
If you’ve tried everything listed, but the error persists, it’s best to contact an appliance technician who will be able to diagnose and fix the machine.
If your dishwasher is still under warranty, contact your supplier or Bosch first since the fix might be covered.
